Overview
The water district sought to eliminate costly water losses from their aging spring line while minimizing environmental disruption along the sensitive creek corridor. Their primary goals were to restore system efficiency, reduce operational costs from excess pump usage, and ensure long-term reliability of this critical water supply infrastructure without the expense and environmental impact of full pipeline replacement.
Challenges
The 60-year-old, 20-inch diameter pipeline ran parallel to a creek, creating access challenges while requiring careful environmental considerations. Years of ground settlement and pipe deterioration had created numerous leak points that compromised system efficiency and wasted precious water resources. The district was operating one additional pump beyond normal capacity just to compensate for the water loss, resulting in increased operational costs and energy consumption.
Solution
Advantage Reline deployed Primus Line® 20 trenchless technology to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation solution. This phase of the overall 3,000-foot project involved installing 1,300 feet of jointless lining through strategic placement of just two access pits, minimizing environmental impact along the sensitive creek-side location. The crew successfully navigated four bends in the pipeline (45 and 22 degrees) while maintaining structural integrity throughout the installation process.
The rehabilitation eliminated all leak points, immediately improving system efficiency to the point where the district could reduce their pump operations by one full unit. They replaced one valve and eliminated another. This dramatic improvement in hydraulic performance not only reduced operational costs but also enhanced the reliability of water delivery to the community. The 100-year service life rating of the Primus Line® system ensures long-term reliability for this critical infrastructure, protecting the water district's investment for decades to come.
