Client Objective
Overview
The project involved rehabilitating a 100-foot, 36-inch+ reclaimed water pipeline using SIPP technology. Operating as a gravity system with 2 pits, the rehabilitation required navigating 90-degree bends while maintaining continuous service.
Challenges
The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts faced the critical challenge of rehabilitating aging infrastructure while maintaining uninterrupted service to the community. The large-diameter gravity system carried reclaimed water through a configuration that included sharp 90-degree bends, making conventional rehabilitation methods impractical. Any extended downtime would have disrupted essential water distribution operations, impacting multiple service areas dependent on this critical pipeline. The district needed a solution that could restore the pipeline's structural integrity and flow capacity without the lengthy outages typically associated with traditional replacement methods.
Solution
Advantage Reline deployed SIPP (Spray-In-Place Pipe) technology to provide a rapid rehabilitation solution that minimized system downtime. Using only two strategically placed access pits, the crew successfully rehabilitated the 100-foot section of 36-inch+ diameter pipeline while working around the 90-degree bends. The SIPP technology allowed for quick application and cure times, significantly reducing the service interruption period compared to traditional methods.
The rehabilitation restored the pipeline's structural integrity and flow characteristics while allowing LACSD to maintain near-continuous service throughout the project. By utilizing this advanced trenchless technology, the project avoided the extensive excavation and extended downtime that would have been required with conventional replacement methods. This approach protected the district's operational efficiency and ensured reliable reclaimed water delivery to the community with minimal disruption to daily operations.
